Do You Know These Affiliate Marketing Advice Secrets?

August 3, 2026 by Sheldon Leave a Comment

Do you know these affiliate marketing advice secrets? Not all common affiliate marketing advice holds up once you actually test it against real results.

affiliate marketing advice

Some of it is outdated.

Some of it is always a little off.

And some of it works for a specific situation that doesn’t apply to most beginners.

Let’s go through a few of the biggest ones.

“Post every single day.”

This is repeated often and can be harmful advice for most beginners.

Especially anyone doing this alongside a job or other responsibilities.

Daily posting can come across as dedication, but it often results in thin, rushed content and burnout within weeks.

Consistent, well-researched content on a sustainable schedule.

Even just once or twice a week.

Will out-earn daily posting done in a rush.

Because search engines and readers both reward genuine usefulness over sheer volume.

“You need to promote everything for maximum income.”

This one feels intuitively true — more products, more chances to earn.

But it actually dilutes your credibility and confuses your audience about what you actually stand for.

The affiliates who earn the most consistently tend to be known for a specific, narrow set of recommendations they genuinely believe in.

Not a clearance house for every product in their niche.

“Success stories prove the method works for everyone.”

Be cautious with this one specifically.

Individual success stories are real, but they’re not evidence that a specific strategy will work identically for you.

Survivorship bias means you’re only hearing from the people it worked out for.

Not the much larger group for whom it didn’t.

Often for reasons unrelated to effort or the strategy itself.

“You need a huge following before you can make money.”

We covered this directly in an earlier post — it’s simply not true.

Intent-driven, specific traffic converts regardless of audience size, and plenty of profitable affiliate operations run on relatively small, highly targeted audiences.

Affiliate marketing advice.

“Free traffic from SEO is better than paid traffic.”

This one’s more nuanced than a flat rule.

SEO traffic is valuable because it’s ongoing and doesn’t require continued spending, but it’s also slow to build and unpredictable while you’re waiting for it.

Paid traffic, used carefully and only once you understand your numbers well enough to know it’ll be profitable, can accelerate things.

But it’s genuinely risky for beginners who don’t yet know their conversion rates and can burn through money fast with nothing to show for it.

Neither is universally “better” — they serve different stages and different budgets.

“Just be authentic, and the sales will come.”

Authenticity matters enormously.

Still, it’s not a magic substitute:

  • For the actual mechanics.
  • Specific searchable content.
  • Real trust-building.
  • And a clear path to a recommendation.
  • Authenticity without structure is just a very honest, low-traffic blog.

The theme running through all of these is that affiliate marketing advice that sounds universally true and simple is usually oversimplified.

The honest version of most good advice comes with real nuance and real exceptions.

And being skeptical of anything presented as an absolute rule will serve you better than following any single piece of advice.

Including this post.

Without questioning whether it fits your specific situation.

Ultimate Affiliate Marketing Tracking You Need to Know

August 2, 2026 by Sheldon Leave a Comment

Ultimate affiliate marketing tracking: what you need to know. A huge number of people doing affiliate marketing have genuinely no idea which of their content is working and which isn’t.

Ultimate affiliate marketing tracking

They’re publishing based on gut feeling.

And when something doesn’t perform.

They don’t know whether the problem was the topic.

The writing, the platform, or just bad timing.

Let’s fix that.

Tracking is simpler than it sounds, and it removes almost all the guesswork.

At minimum.

  • You need to know three things for every piece of content you publish.
  • How many people saw it, how many people clicked your affiliate link.
  • And how many of those clicks turned into an actual sale?

That’s it.

Those three numbers are tracked consistently.

Will tell you almost everything you need to know about what’s working.

For blog traffic, a free analytics tool will show you page views per post — that’s your “how many people saw it” number.

Most affiliate networks and programs provide their own dashboard showing clicks and conversions per link, which covers the other two.

This is usually available as soon as you’re approved for a program.

It’s worth checking regularly rather than only when you remember to.

Ultimate affiliate marketing tracking.

Here’s the simple structure that turns those raw numbers into useful decisions.

For each post, calculate roughly what percentage of viewers clicked your affiliate link, and what percentage of clicks became sales.

If a post gets plenty of views but almost no clicks, that’s usually a signal the content and the product recommendation don’t feel connected enough.

The product may have been introduced too abruptly, or the content didn’t build enough trust or context before asking for a click.

If a post gets decent clicks but no sales.

That’s more often a signal about the product itself, or a mismatch between what the content promised and what the product actually delivers.

You don’t need a fancy dashboard to track this.

A simple spreadsheet with one row per post — title, views, clicks, sales, rough conversion percentage — updated weekly or monthly.

It is usually enough for most beginners to start spotting real patterns instead of guessing.

Once you have even a few months of this data, patterns tend to jump out clearly.

Your review-style posts consistently outperform your list-style posts.

Maybe content built around one specific search phrase converts far better than broader topic posts.

One particular affiliate product converts dramatically better than the others you’re promoting.

Which tells you where to focus your future content rather than spreading effort evenly across everything.

Tracking also protects you emotionally, in a strange way.

Instead of a bad month feeling like a vague, discouraging mystery, you can look at the actual numbers and see exactly where the drop happened.

Which turns discouragement into a specific, solvable problem instead of a vague feeling of failure.

How to Build The Best Email List for Affiliate Marketing

August 2, 2026 by Sheldon Leave a Comment

How to build the best email list for affiliate marketing. If you’ve spent any time researching affiliate marketing, you’ve probably heard some version of “the money is in the list.”

How to build the best email list

It’s a cliché at this point, but it’s a cliché because it’s largely true.

An email list is the one piece of your audience you actually own.

Unaffected by algorithm changes or platform shutdowns.

Or search ranking shifts that can wipe out your traffic overnight.

Here’s the good news if you’re starting from zero.

You don’t need thousands of subscribers for an email list to be worth building.

Even a small list of a few hundred genuinely engaged subscribers.

Can outperform a much larger social following for actual affiliate sales.

Because people who’ve handed over their email address have already signaled a higher level of trust and interest than someone who just happened to scroll past your post.

So how do you get your first subscribers with no existing audience?

Good question. Here’s how to build the best email list.

The most effective starting point is what’s often called a lead magnet.

A free, specific, genuinely useful resource that solves a small piece of your audience’s problem in exchange for their email address.

This needs to be specific, not generic.

“Free guide to making money online.”

Won’t convert nearly as well as something like.

“A simple checklist for spotting legitimate work-from-home job listings versus scams.”

This is because the second one promises a specific, immediately useful outcome tied to a real frustration your audience has.

Once you’ve built that resource, Here’s mine, for example.

Or it can be genuinely simple: a one-page PDF or checklist is enough to start.

You place it prominently in your existing content, wherever it naturally fits.

A blog post about avoiding job scams is the perfect place to offer a free scam-spotting checklist.

Because the person reading it has already demonstrated interest in exactly that problem.

After someone subscribes, the email sequence that follows matters as much as the lead magnet itself.

Resist the urge to pitch affiliate products in your first email immediately. Instead, over your first few emails, continue delivering genuinely useful, specific value.

Like tips, resources, and honest insight.

The same trust-building approach that works in your blog content, just delivered directly to their inbox instead.

Only after you’ve delivered real value a few times.

Then introducing an affiliate recommendation feels earned rather than like a bait-and-switch.

A sustainable rhythm for most beginners: one email a day or once a week.

Mixing genuinely useful content with the occasional honest product recommendation.

Please avoid emailing daily with different offers, as it tends to quickly spike unsubscribes.

The tools that actually do this are technically inexpensive and beginner-friendly at small list sizes.

Most email platforms offer free tiers for your first few hundred or thousand subscribers.

So cost isn’t a real barrier to getting started, even on a tight budget.

The compounding effect here is significant.

An email list lets you reach the same engaged group repeatedly, over months and years.

Deepening trust each time rather than starting from scratch with every new visitor.

Do you already have a lead magnet idea, or are you stuck on which specific resource to offer?

If you are still undecided, read my other blog posts.

Can You Master Affiliate Marketing Now Over 50?

August 1, 2026 by Sheldon Leave a Comment

Can you master affiliate marketing now over 50? If you’re over 50 and looking at affiliate marketing as a way back into earning income, maybe after a career break, a layoff, or retirement.

master affiliate marketing now over 50

In what you want your working life to look like.

There’s a specific version of this conversation worth having.

Because a lot of the generic advice out there.

It is written for 25-year-olds with different constraints and different starting points.

And it doesn’t always translate cleanly.

Can you master affiliate marketing now over 50?

Here’s the honest good news first.

Age is not the disadvantage in this space that it can feel like elsewhere.

Affiliate marketing rewards clear writing, real-world judgment, and the ability to explain things thoroughly and honestly.

All things that tend to improve with decades of life and work experience do not diminish.

Readers searching for advice on serious topics — financial products, career transitions, health-adjacent decisions.

Often, they specifically respond better to a voice that sounds experienced and grounded rather than young and hype-driven.

That said, there are a few real adjustments worth making.

Rather than pretending the playing field is identical to a 25-year-old creator’s.

Platform choice matters more here than the generic advice suggests.

Video-first platforms with young, fast-cut editing conventions — TikTok in particular —

Often reward a specific youthful, high-energy presentation style that can feel like an uncomfortable costume to put on if it’s not natural to you.

And forcing it usually reads as inauthentic rather than compelling.

Blogging and Pinterest, by contrast, reward the writing and judgment itself far more than a particular on-camera persona.

Which often makes them a more comfortable and more effective starting point.

There’s also real value in leaning into, rather than hiding, that specific perspective.

That comes from having actually lived through career transitions, financial decisions, and life stages your audience is currently navigating.

If your content is aimed at other people 50+ figuring out a career pivot.

Your own lived experience of that exact transition is a genuine asset.

Not something to downplay in favor of sounding more “generically online.”

Readers in that specific stage of life are often actively looking for a voice that sounds like someone who’s actually been there.

Rather than a 24-year-old marketer describing a life stage they haven’t lived through yet.

On the technical side

Setting up a blog, learning basic SEO, figuring out affiliate networks.

None of it requires any specialized technical background, regardless of your age or your history with technology.

It requires patience with a learning curve.

The same as it would for anyone starting fresh in an unfamiliar skill.

And it’s genuinely learnable at any stage, in small, manageable steps rather than all at once.

The biggest actual obstacle usually isn’t a skill gap.

It’s the same thing that trips up beginners of every age.

Expecting fast results and getting discouraged in the slow early months before traffic and trust have had time to build.

That part of the timeline doesn’t discriminate by age — everyone goes through it, and those who stick with it past that point tend to see it start paying off.

If you’re in this specific position.

Your experience is a real advantage in a space that often rewards depth and credibility over flash.

You’re not behind; you’re just starting a different, and in some ways better-suited, version of the same process.

If you’re navigating this stage of a career shift, you can read more of my blog posts if needed.

How to Make Your Affiliate Marketing Content The Best

August 1, 2026 by Sheldon Leave a Comment

Make your affiliate marketing the best it can be. There’s a specific writing voice that creeps into affiliate content almost by accident, because it’s the voice we’ve all absorbed from years of reading ads.

make your affiliate marketing the best

Exclamation points, urgency, phrases like “you won’t believe” and “this changed everything.”

It feels like what affiliate writing is supposed to sound like.

It’s actually one of the biggest reasons affiliate content fails to convert.

Here’s why:

Your reader has a lifetime of exposure to sales language, and they’ve built an instinctive filter for it.

The moment your writing starts to sound like an ad, that filter activates, and everything after that point gets read with suspicion instead of trust.

Even if the actual information is accurate and useful.

Make your affiliate marketing the best.

The antidote isn’t to write less persuasively.

It’s to write more specifically and more like an actual person talking to another actual person.

Compare these two sentences:

“This tool will revolutionize how you manage your time!”

Versus

“I used to lose about an hour every morning just figuring out what to prioritize — this cut that down to about ten minutes.”

The second one isn’t trying less hard to be persuasive. It’s just persuasive through specificity instead of hype, and specificity reads as credible in a way hype never does.

One practical way to find your actual voice in this kind of writing.

Imagine you’re explaining the product to a specific friend.

Someone real, with a name, whose situation you know.

Write the sentence you’d actually say to them, out loud, in a normal conversation.

Then type that sentence, almost verbatim.

If you wouldn’t say “this game-changing solution will transform your workflow” to your friend over coffee, don’t write it either.

This also means it’s okay — good, even — to sound a little uncertain sometimes.

“I’m honestly not sure this is worth it if you’re only doing this part-time.”

This sentence builds more trust than any amount of confident-sounding marketing copy.

Because certainty about everything is itself a red flag to careful readers.

Another marker of sales-page voice to watch for: overuse of the word “you” in a pushy, command-like way.

  • “You need this.”
  • “You can’t afford to miss this.”
  • “You’ll regret not trying this.”

A little bit of direct address is natural in conversational writing.

But stacked up.

It starts to feel like pressure rather than help, and pressure is exactly what makes people close the tab.

Make your affiliate marketing the best.

The good news is that finding your own voice in affiliate writing isn’t actually hard.

It’s usually already there, buried under the assumption that this kind of writing has to sound like an infomercial.

Strip that assumption away.

Write the sentence you’d actually say, and you’ll likely find your affiliate content starts converting better than it did when it was trying harder to sound persuasive.

If this isn’t for you, please check out more of my blog posts here.
