Here’s a funny thing about when I first got started online. Now let me share the story with you and how you can learn a very valuable lesson that you can benefit from. My mom thought I was gifted and would have overnight success.

In all reality, I knew that Mom saw it this way, but it didn’t happen that way at all.
This lesson will help you build your business faster and avoid all the costly time and money mistakes I made.
But first when I first got started online, I want you to see that what you may be going through right now, I did as well.
In my case, I was laid off after almost 19 years.
So building a business with all that stress on my shoulders was a major challenge.
When I first got started online, I wanted to secure a financial future for myself and my family.
I started buying courses from a marketer who was teaching people how to make money online.
After spending several thousand dollars, I got my “ah ha” moment.
This guy was actually making money from his info products by teaching other people how to build their own business online.
So I started looking at what he was doing.
Not just what he SAID he was doing… but what he was actually DOING.
I realized that a huge chunk of his income was coming from selling other people’s products. He didn’t even create or deliver the products.
Simply sold products that were already created and then collected huge commission checks.
So I started looking for products to sell.
I discovered that one of my buddies was selling health and wellness supplements… and yes, I am talking about network marketing.
I remember it like it was yesterday.
It looked like I could earn up to 7 figures per year or more selling vitamins and shakes… and I didn’t even have to have inventory!
And I just knew that I could use the internet to build a business.
So I got signed up.
But it turned out that my upline didn’t want me to use internet marketing.
I figured, “OK, she’s the pro. I’ll just do what she tells me to do!”
So I started calling everyone I knew and asked them if they were “interested in a side project that didn’t interfere with what they were currently doing”…
I’m sure you know the spiel.
So I started hosting home meetings in my quaint living room.
Selling vitamins and shakes.
Guess what? I actually made my first sale! In fact, this business model is how I made my first sale as an entrepreneur.
But I knew the big money was going to come if I could get people to start selling “under me” so that I could earn from other people’s efforts.
So I started to desperately attempt to recruit my buddies into my business.
Well, it turns out that my friends and family were not nearly as excited by my new business as I was. In fact, they thought I had lost my mind!
I can still remember some advice I got from one of my oldest friends. “Johnny, be careful. I think this might be a scam. I mean do you even know anything about building a business?”
Then it hit me, I DIDN’T.
Lesson #1 – Just get started
You see, I had no idea how to really acquire customers and how to serve those customers. I didn’t know anything about the products I was selling.
And truth be told, I didn’t really care about health and wellness!
But I knew I wanted to build something worthwhile. Something that I would be passionate about.
So I spent the next month on Youtube learning how to do all this stuff.
That got my feet wet, it made me realize that “money is simply an idea” and that if I could make a little, then I can make a lot.
Most people are getting ready to get ready, but you will never be ready.
You just have to get started now.

When I sold some of those health supplements, they were not really in the market for vitamins and shakes.
I asked them later, “WHY did you buy?”
They told me it was because they could tell I was excited and hungry to make this thing work.
When I first got started online, some people gave me a break.
I could have sat around and learned all the skills, but I just got started and learned how to fly after I jumped out of a perfectly good airplane.
I’ve been using this strategy ever since.
After awhile I had completely quit the health supplements business.
So one day, I found a successful person in the make money online industry.
In fact, if I wanted to learn from him, I needed to invest $2500 to work with him in his program.
I was tired of not getting anywhere.
So I did it.
Lesson #2 – A determined person can’t be stopped.
Money in hand, I wasn’t going to accept “NO.”
I made it up in my mind that we were going to work together.
If he told me no, I would just keep bugging him until he said yes, no matter how long it took.
If you really want something, just decide you will do something and never accept the word NO.
No = maybe.
This helped me when I first got started online to learn the power of affiliate marketing.
Never mind that I was still a naive marketer.
And I didn’t really understand the power of the email list.
When someone asked me how much money I’ve made so far.
I said, “what do you mean?”
He told me very forcefully that I should be building a relationship with the people on my list.
Which leads me to my next point.
Lesson #3 – Deliver value often
Let’s learn how to do this effectively which will allow you to create whatever lifestyle you desire.
But, the only important thing for now is that you understand the power of this concept.
Have you ever felt stupid when you can’t answer a simple question?
He explained that money was an exchange of value.
And if I helped people get what they want, then I would be able to make a real living online.
Simply by sharing everything I knew and I didn’t even really know how to sell.
I just started sharing my knowledge on my blog, social media, forums and anyone who wanted to learn from me.
Furthermore, that meant more investing in courses and masterminds to learn how to sell products better.
Lesson #4 – Invest in yourself
Business is an investment and the more you invest in yourself to learn how to build your business, the more money you can make.
Once I started buying the courses and learning from people who already knew what they were doing.
I learned how to position products, how to sequence my emails and how to speak to my audience and deliver value.
I didn’t get to that income overnight, but I leveraged one win, after another win, after another win.
What changed everything for me learning from people that could help me get to where I wanna be.
Now if you haven’t figured it out yet, the main lesson I wanted to teach you today was that you need a mentor.
“You don’t know what you don’t know”
