Before you ever mention a product, you need to demonstrate that you understand the problem better than they do.
Not in a lecture-y way — in a “oh, this person gets it” way.
If you’re writing about work-from-home job platforms, don’t open with a list of platforms.
Open with the actual frustration: the endless applications that go nowhere.
The “flexible remote job” listings that turn out to be commission-only sales roles.
The hours lost sorting real opportunities from junk.
Name the pain accurately, and people lean in, because most content skips straight past that part.
Only after you’ve shown you understand the problem do you introduce the product.
And even then, frame it as one option among several, with honest downsides included.
“This platform charges a small monthly fee,”
Which annoyed me at first.
“But the quality of listings is noticeably higher than the free alternatives.”
That builds more trust than ten enthusiastic exclamation points ever will.
Paradoxically, mentioning a downside is often what gets someone to finally click.
Because it tells them you’re not just hyping whatever pays you the most.
There’s a second layer to this mistake too: recommending too many things at once.
New affiliates often try to monetize everything — five different tools in a single post.
Links everywhere, because more links must mean more chances someone clicks, right?
It’s actually the opposite.
When you recommend one thing clearly, you look like an expert with a strong opinion.
When you recommend everything, you look like you’re just trying to get paid, and readers can smell that from a mile away.
A simple gut check before you publish anything with an affiliate link in it.
Would you send this exact piece of content to a friend who was dealing with this exact problem, with no financial stake in it at all?
If the honest answer is no — if you’d tell your friend something slightly different in private — that’s the signal to rewrite it.
This is the difference between affiliate marketing that compounds over time and affiliate marketing that fizzles out after a few months.
The compounding version is built entirely on people trusting that you’d tell them the truth even when it costs you a commission.
